عقلمند لکڑہارا
بے شمار لوگوں نے کوشش کی، مگر ناکام رہے۔ان سب کو بادشاہ نے قید خانے میں ڈال دیا۔جب لکڑہارے کی باری آئی تو وہ آداب بجا لانے کے بعد بولا:”حضورِ والا! میری پہلی خواہش یہ ہے کہ میں آپ کو اپنی تمام خواہش ایک ساتھ نہ بتاؤں، بلکہ ایک ایک کر کے بتاؤں۔“ بادشاہ نے قبول کر لیا۔
”میری دوسری خواہش یہ ہے کہ میں حضورِ والا کو ایک مہینے کے لئے قید خانے میں ڈال دوں۔
“یہ سنتے ہی بادشاہ آگ بگولہ ہو گیا، لیکن چونکہ بادشاہ نے تمام درباریوں کے سامنے وعدہ کر چکا تھا، لہٰذا دو سپاہیوں نے بادشاہ کو پکڑ کر قید خانے میں ڈال دیا۔چونکہ اب بادشاہ دربار میں نہیں تھا، لہٰذا وزیر نے اس سے تیسری خواہش پوچھی۔
لکڑہارے نے کہا:”وزیرِ محترم! میں آپ کو اپنی تیسری خواہش ایک گھنٹے بعد بتاؤں گا۔وزیر اس کی بات مان گیا۔ایک گھنٹہ گزرنے کے بعد اس نے کہا:”میری تیسری خواہش یہ ہے کہ بادشاہ سلامت کو عزت کے ساتھ قید خانے سے واپس لایا جائے۔قید خانے سے نکلنے کے بعد تو بادشاہ کی خوشی کی کوئی انتہا نہیں رہی وہ سمجھ گیا کہ لکڑہارا بہت ذہین ہے۔اس نے باقی لوگوں کو بھی رہا کر دیا اور لکڑہارے کو ایک ہزار سونے کی اشرفیوں کے علاوہ اپنا مشیر بھی بنا لیا۔
A king and wise woodcutter
A king made a strange announcement across his kingdom: whoever tells the king three wishes that bring him true happiness will be rewarded with a thousand gold coins. If the king is not satisfied, the person will be imprisoned. In a village, there lived a wise woodcutter. The villagers suggested he participate in the competition, and the woodcutter agreed.
Countless people tried, but all failed and were imprisoned by the king. When it was the woodcutter's turn, he greeted the king respectfully and said, "Your Majesty! My first wish is that I do not tell you all my wishes at once, but one by one." The king agreed.
"My second wish is that I imprison Your Majesty for one month."
Hearing this, the king became furious, but since he had promised in front of all his courtiers, he had to comply. Two guards took the king and put him in prison. Since the king was no longer in court, the minister asked for the third wish. The woodcutter said, "Honorable Minister! I will tell you my third wish after an hour." The minister agreed.
After an hour, the woodcutter said, "My third wish is that the king be brought back from prison with respect." After being released from prison, the king's happiness knew no bounds. He realized that the woodcutter was very wise. He released all the other prisoners and, besides giving the woodcutter a thousand gold coins, made him his advisor.
